From Crisis to Confidence: How TEC Canada Helps Dana Wilkins Lead with Impact

For nearly three decades, Dana Wilkins worked in policing and corrections. Then came a career-defining shift—moving from board member to Executive Director of Regina’s Mobile Crisis Services Inc. Suddenly, he wasn’t just advising the organization; he was responsible for its future. Leading a 24/7 crisis response team while ensuring long-term financial stability required more than experience—it demanded a strategic edge and a trusted network.

That’s when he turned to TEC Canada.

A Leadership Sounding Board

Dana Wilkins’ TEC experience has been transformational. Monthly one-to-one coaching with his TEC Chair, Gord Moker, has provided an invaluable outside perspective. His TEC group serves as a sounding board, challenging his assumptions and offering real-world guidance.

“TEC has helped me validate major decisions, particularly around organizational structure. The peer group challenges my thinking, ensuring the choices I make lead to real, lasting improvements.”

One of Dana’s biggest takeaways? The OCI process—Opportunity, Challenge, Issue.

“Every two months, I bring an OCI to my group. If I need feedback, direction, or accountability, I get it—and I know the issue I’m tackling will be resolved within the month.”

Turning Insight Into Action

The impact of TEC has been tangible.

“Before TEC, I saw redundancy in some leadership roles. I ran my assessment through my TEC group, checked my unconscious bias, and mapped out my plan. The group unanimously agreed I was on the right path. That validation gave me the confidence to execute structural changes with absolute clarity.”

With TEC’s support, Dana has also made meaningful operational shifts, improved decision-making and financial sustainability.

The ROI of Resilience

In crisis response, burnout is inevitable—unless it’s actively managed. Recognizing this, Dana has made employee well-being a priority.

“My role is to remove barriers so that my staff stays healthy and engaged. The work they do is emotionally heavy, so we’ve built in recovery time after tough calls. That’s a direct result of what I’ve learned at TEC.”

TEC has also helped Dana reframe his own approach to leadership.

“I spent 29 years in a high-stress career, followed by high-pressure business consulting. TEC [through it’s Speakers) has made me realize that if I don’t take care of my own health, I won’t be here to lead long-term.”

Big Goals, Bigger Vision: The Future of Mobile Crisis Services Inc.

Under Dana’s leadership, the organization is taking a long-term approach to financial stability.

“Right now, we have half a million dollars in investments. My goal is to grow that to $4 million in the next two years to ensure long-term financial sustainability.”

To achieve this, Dana has implemented strategic fundraising initiatives, including legacy funds and an employee giving program.

“For the first time in our 50-year history, we’ve structured investment funds. We’re shifting from survival mode to actively growing our financial foundation. TEC played a critical role in shaping that vision.”

As Mobile Crisis Services Inc. celebrates its 50th anniversary, Dana is focused on increasing brand awareness and securing corporate sponsorships.

“This milestone isn’t just about celebration—it’s about building a sustainable future. Our goal is to establish an annual fundraising gala and secure long-term corporate partnerships that align with our mission.”

Leadership is a Team Sport

Dana’s biggest leadership takeaway? No one succeeds alone.

“I’m not an expert in everything—and no leader should try to be. TEC has given me a peer group that fills in my gaps, challenges my thinking, and provides insights I wouldn’t have considered on my own.”

For leaders navigating high-pressure roles, Dana’s message is clear: TEC is a game-changer.

“Invest in yourself. Surround yourself with people who push you to be better. Your organization—and your leadership—will be stronger because of it.”
