TEC CANADA CEO AND
As a Chair, Mark describes himself as “all-in,” caring deeply for their experience and them personally while driving the member experience forward through accountability and fresh ideas.
Mark Terrill’s notable business career has been built around his choice to be the type of leader who empowers others to learn and succeed. Over the course of his 35-year career in the insurance industry, he built and grew three different firms, each of which was a long-term success story. Mark’s passion for business in general and for the development of the people who helped grow his companies fueled their ongoing prosperity and growth.
After graduating from University of Toronto with a B.A. (Honours) and acquiring his CIP, Mark quickly distinguished himself in the insurance industry when he acquired the brokerage he was working with. Within a few years of becoming President he ad expanded Thompson & Co., organically and through acquisition, ultimately negotiating a merger of it with another firm. Not content to sit on his laurels, Mark immediately began another business, eventually merging with Jones Brown. He became President of that leading private Canadian brokerage in 2007 and rose to CEO in 2010. Throughout his career, Mark’s strong, supportive leadership attracted – and retained – the best talent and his long-term vision ensured that his companies were built to last.
Mark began a commitment to life-long learning twenty-five years ago when, as a young entrepreneur, he joined the CEO group of TEC Canada founder Dr Lynn Tanner. He was the longest-standing member of that group until he resigned as a member, to continue his involvement as a TEC Chair. Mark is in the process of obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching from Royal Roads University. He is Chair of TEC 200, a mature CEO group, as well as a TEC Sage group.
