More than 1,800 entrepreneurs and business leaders are members of TEC Canada. TEC’s global network – through its affiliation with Vistage Worldwide – is also now exceeding 24,000 members in more than 20 countries.

This is a lot, and it’s also little.

It’s a lot because it all started with one person, 65 years ago. For entrepreneurs and business leaders who want to grow outside of Quebec, TEC now provides a network of unparalleled strength.

At the same time, it is also a little because we are far away – as entrepreneurs – from risking investing too much in our personal and professional development. Too few of us are part of such groups, let alone executive peer advisory groups that are professionally led and allow for even more decisive results.

I was approached to be a TEC Chair at a moment when I was still a member and after successfully exiting my business. I felt compelled to get into this adventure because I knew I would have a greater impact than doing consulting. I hesitated because I did not want to lose my peer group, which was of great support and where I felt I made a difference. It’s when I learned that I would have a new TEC group composed of Chairs that I decided to make the switch, and never looked back.

Now, being a TEC Chair of four peer groups today, I pinch myself every day because I support entrepreneurs and CEOs who are intense, intelligent, and ambitious towards the development of their organizations, themselves, and communities.

Every day, we experience at least one “breakthrough” – and that’s just in my groups. In the world, how many hundreds a day? In all humility, it gives me a lot of confidence that we will be able to solve the important challenges we face as a society.

Solutions to our major challenges often have technical, economic, and political components. They also require strong leadership components. As a TEC Chair, I am very happy about the meaningful work that comes from leading several groups and being surrounded by such a strong and impactful community at this stage of my career.

C’est beaucoup et c’est peu.

C’est beaucoup parce que ça a commencĂ© par 1 il y a 65 ans. Pour des entrepreneurs qui veulent croĂ®tre Ă  l’extĂ©rieur du QuĂ©bec, c’est un rĂ©seau d’une force inĂ©galĂ©e.

En mĂŞme temps c’est peu parce que nous sommes loin, comme entrepreneurs, de risquer de trop investir dans notre dĂ©veloppement personnel et professionnel. Trop peu font partie de tels groupes, encore moins de groupes qui sont dirigĂ©s professionnellement et qui permettent des rĂ©sultats encore plus dĂ©terminants.

J’ai été approché pour devenir président T.E.C. à un moment où j’étais encore membre et que je venais de quitter mon entreprise. Je me suis senti appelé par cette aventure, car je savais que j’aurais plus d’impact en étant président de groupes qu’en offrant des services-conseils. En même temps, j’ai hésité parce que je ne voulais pas perdre mon groupe de pairs, qui était d’un grand soutien et où je sentais que je faisais une différence. C’est quand j’ai appris que j’aurais un nouveau groupe T.E.C., composé d’autres présidents et présidentes de groupes, que j’ai décidé de faire le changement.

Depuis, je n’ai jamais regardĂ© en arrière. Pour avoir Ă©tĂ© moi-mĂŞme membre quelques annĂ©es et pour avoir la chance de prĂ©sider aujourd’hui 4 groupes, je me pince Ă  chaque jour d’avoir la chance de cĂ´toyer et d’appuyer autant de personnes aussi intenses, intelligentes, ambitieuses dans leur dĂ©veloppement personnel et professionnel.

Chaque jour, on vit au moins une dĂ©couverte importante (breakthrough). Ça c’est juste dans mes groupes. Dans le monde, ça fait combien de centaines par jour? En toute humilitĂ©, ça me donne Ă©normĂ©ment confiance qu’on va arriver Ă  rĂ©soudre les dĂ©fis importants auxquels on fait face comme sociĂ©tĂ©.

Les solutions Ă  nos dĂ©fis d’envergure ont souvent des composantes techniques, Ă©conomiques et politiques. Elles ont toutes une composante de leadership vraiment importante et je suis très heureux d’y travailler Ă  temps plein dans une communautĂ© aussi forte.
