Hello!
A Little Bit About Me
I am a voracious reader and learner, who has never been satisfied with the status quo, and constantly seeks a better way to do things. I enjoy developing and refining systems to help execute tasks with ease, accuracy, and efficiency. I have also enjoyed coaching roles since university.
My background includes years of entrepreneurial leadership roles in white- and blue-collar organizations, providing intangible and tangible services to our clients and customers, always competing on the basis of quality.
Between completing my MBA at the University of Western Ontario, working with hundreds of business clients, and running my own businesses I have encountered and addressed thousands of business challenges in a wide range of industries.
I started in the insurance business after graduation, and soon established a new client base upon moving to a city where I only knew a few people. Later I founded a new partnership which grew to $17 million in revenue within 4 years.
After 19 years in insurance, I purchased and operated a roofing company for 7 years, where I honed my logistical planning, personnel management, purchasing strategies, and administrative skills.
Seeking new challenges, I established a consulting practice, which has served clients in a wide range of industries, including real estate, agriculture, and construction. I have advised on issues such as inventory management, international supplier selection, productivity measurement, and real-time profitability monitoring.
As a TEC Chair I lead a group of business leaders who help themselves while helping each other. My background working in and with family businesses gives me a particular interest in having a multi-generational membership, allowing members to share different perspectives particularly regarding business succession issues. We seek leaders committed to gaining and sharing knowledge in a positive, supportive environment.
On the personal side, my wife and I share 4 children and grandchildren whose geographical scatter adds to the travel we do for recreation. I have organized and played hockey for over 20 years, and a forecasters group for nearly as long. I highly value the camaraderie of both groups. In addition to my massive annual reading list, I stretch my brain by working on my cooking, woodworking and banjo-playing skills.
