A Little Bit About Me
David is an award-winning entrepreneur, speaker and author.
As a TEC Chair in Kelowna, BC, he endeavours to equip CEOs, entrepreneurs, executives, and midlevel leaders to dare greatly in order to maximize their professional and personal growth. David is recognized as a “Master Chair” within the TEC community; has received the Red Shoes Award for outstanding creativity and innovation in the art of leading leaders; leads chair development in British Columbia; and in 2025 he received The Robert Nourse Award—TEC’s highest honor—for a chair who has made an outstanding contribution to the TEC community across Canada. For many years, David also taught new TEC chairs in the TEC National Chair Academy and has spoken to TEC groups across Canada on Wholehearted Leadership.
Prior to TEC, after serving as a sports marketing specialist in the National Hockey League, David began his entrepreneurial journey by establishing MacLean Group Marketing, a full-service marketing agency, and MacLean Sports Marketing, which served the promotional needs of professional sports teams across North America. David’s agencies won numerous local, national, and international awards, including being ranked as one of the fastest-growing companies in Canada by Profit Magazine.
David and his wife Anne led their sons on a 2-year Global Educational Odyssey, travelling over 115,000 km on over a dozen trips to more than 100 destinations in seven different countries. Their family adventure garnered national media attention and was the topic of David’s TEDx talk, Meant to Be Spent.
David is passionate about facilitating an awakening of heart-based leadership and speaks widely and writes extensively on the principles of Wholehearted Leadership. His book, Wholehearted Leadership – Volume 1, is available on Amazon.

A Little Bit About Me
I am a renowned master communicator and facilitator who excels in engaging audiences and inspiring action. My passion, insight, and wholeheartedness are rooted in my leadership philosophy.
After serving as a sports marketing specialist in the NHL, I launched Maclean Group Marketing. My clients included high-profile clients such as professional sports franchises, the NBA All-Star Game, the World Track and Field Championships, airlines, government agencies, billion-dollar publicly traded companies, and high-tech start-ups.
My achievements were marked by numerous regional, national, and international awards and my company was made it into Profit Magazine’s 2004 list of Canada’s fastest growing companies. Additionally, I also served as President of the Esporta Certified Operators of North America, where I collaborated with entrepreneurs across Canada and the US, delivering speeches at industry events. Today, I leverage my experiences to speak and write about topics such as self-leadership, marketing, and social responsibility through my company, Wholehearted Leaders.
As a TEC Chair, I bring my unique experiences from the world of business and professional sports to mentor aspiring leaders. I believe that individuals need a coach to draw out what’s best in them so they can operate at the top of their game. I hope to empower leaders to dare greatly, fostering positive change in the lives of people they lead, and the world they live in.
On a personal note, I reside in Kelowna with my wife and two sons. Guided by the principle of “prosperity for purpose”, I contribute my time and talents to many non-profit organizations. I find joy in reading and writing, with Max Depree’s “Leadership is an Art” as my favourite read.
