Through the Eyes of a TEC Chair: Lasting Impact

A leader’s job is perhaps more complex and significant in this fast-changing economic environment than ever before. As a TEC Canada Chair, I have the privilege to be an executive coach and witness firsthand the dramatic difference TEC Canada makes in the lives of business owners, leaders, executives, and entrepreneurs.

The Magic of Collective Wisdom

Aside from Executive Coaching, TEC utilizes Peer Advisory Groups. They consist of leaders from non-competing industries sharing their experiences, challenging one another, and offering invaluable support. I can confidently say, the impact of collective wisdom cannot be overstated. In these groups, one can expect a confidential and collaborative environment to discuss issues of most importance, gain new perspectives, and develop actionable strategies for problem-solving.
As a TEC Chair, I facilitate the groups to ensure members get the most out of each session. To witness the collaboration and trust that develops within these groups is truly rewarding, and members have shared that these meetings have not only been invaluable in solving their complex business problems but also provided them with friendship and understanding that is hard to find as an all-too-common isolated leader.

Executive Coaching: Personal and Professional Growth

Another key component of TEC Canada’s support is Executive Coaching. Members participate in individual coaching sessions to receive customized advice on how to accomplish their goals. As a coach, I help them recognize their strengths, find areas for improvement, and uncover the steps to develop their personal and professional lives. Leadership development is a key component to business success, as organizations are extensions of their leader.

This personalized interaction brings awareness to their blind spots and helps them make more informed decisions. Their dedicated time at work becomes more effective, leaving time for big-picture conceptualizing. The change that I have seen in these leaders is profound. They become more confident, resilient, and better equipped to handle what the business world throws at them day to day.

At TEC Canada, we believe in continuous learning that never stops. The Thought Leader Program is designed specifically for the group members to equip them with the knowledge they need to navigate the ever-changing economic climate. World-leading speakers are brought in to put on half-day, interactive workshops on various topics, from strategic thinking and implementing new technology, to emotional intelligence and effective communication.

What makes them particularly valuable is their ability to uncover and address the root cause of issues that often elude growing organizations. This is a crucial benefit for business leaders as operation complexity increases. As a chair, I have the responsibility of choosing which thought leaders to bring in based on the needs of my group members. Dwight Mihalicz is a TEC Canada Chair in Ottawa ON, international speaker, author, and founder of Effective Managers.

He holds an MBA from the University of Ottawa and has served as the Director of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Telfer School of Management. As an accredited ISO 20700 Instructor, he trains consultants in this management consulting services standard. Additionally, he has been elected a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Ontario, Canada, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to his profession, clients, and community.

Dwight has made significant global contributions to the field of management consulting. He volunteered for international task forces of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI), the global body for Institutes of Management Consulting. His dedication was acknowledged when he was elected Treasurer of the Global Board. In 2018, he was elected for a three-year term as the Chair of ICMCI, and he currently serves on the Board as Past Chair.

Dwight has recently published The Effective CEO: The Balancing Act that Drives Sustainable Performance, a book that explores the key functions that a successful CEO must carry out.
