Alex Kroon

With a degree in engineering physics, I started in management consulting before moving into senior roles at two telecom startups. From there, I led Canadian operations for a global online business, stepped into a COO role for a private company managing U.S. healthcare for international insurers, and  became CEO after helping the owner sell to a multinational. 

As CEO, I led the company through significant growth — quadrupling its size organically, while also acquiring and doubling the profits of a U.S. company.

Since then, I've run an IT outsourcing MSP and two divisions of a publicly traded medical cannabis firm, one of which I scaled sales from $600K to $20M in two years. Today, alongside my role as a TEC Chair, I run MaraCogna Inc., advising entrepreneurs who are ready to elevate to their next level.  I believe in giving back to the community and serve as board chair for a $39M Toronto based charity. 

Across five businesses and multiple industries — from startups to global multinationals — one truth has stayed consistent: growth creates complexity and leadership at the top can feel isolating. As a former TEC member, I experienced firsthand how a strong peer group sharpens thinking, challenges assumptions, and provides real support. That experience is why I became a Chair. My TEC group is for leaders who want deep discussions with peers about getting to the next level.

TEC Canada is a leadership development organization that empowers and supports business leaders who in turn run successful companies and organizations, the backbone of Canada. We aim to build a community of trust and growth where we lift one another to reach goals and overcome obstacles.

The challenges facing Canadian business leaders are increasingly complex. It’s easy to feel overloaded with information, stretched and alone. Leaders are looking for a safe harbour where they can receive advice and support. TEC provides deeper insights that can make a real impact in your business, your career, and your life.

TEC offers six different types of peer advisory groups, each purpose-built for unique leadership levels, including CEOs, key executives, business owners and emerging leaders. We take great care to match you to the right peer group by considering your organizational size, stage of development and competitive landscape.

Leadership development programs aim to help business leaders navigate the challenges and complexities of running a business while aiding their growth as individuals and team leaders. We believe that learning is a lifelong pursuit, with no real end point. The benefits of joining one of our programs extend as far as you’re willing to take them. We focus on supporting members to grow in five specific ways:

  1. Helping business leaders make informed decisions in the high-stakes, fast-paced environment of business, maximizing their ROI and revenue, and enhancing their workplace culture.
  2. Holding each other accountable for the actionable steps we commit to. With accountability, we see our decisions through to the end, better ensuring our personal and professional success.

All this is accomplished through the four primary components of TEC: Peer groups, one-to-one coaching, thought leadership, and our global network.

TEC Chairs are experienced professionals with multiple years of business experience in senior leadership roles, performance coaching, consulting, or successful entrepreneurship, looking to share their knowledge and give back to the Canadian business community. Beyond just CEO training, they are the mentors responsible for guiding and facilitating the peer groups, choosing speakers for the group, and giving individual advice in one-to-one meetings with their members.

You get exclusive one-to-one coaching with a TEC Canada executive coach (Chair) who challenges you and accelerates your ability to grow strategically and overcome hurdles. Digging deeper into your personal and professional challenges is critical to achieving high levels of success. Alongside coaching, your Chair facilitates monthly confidential peer group meetings where ideas and solutions are pressure-tested by other CEOs who are walking the same path.

Yes, we take confidentiality seriously. Every TEC Chair and member is evaluated and signs an NDA before they join TEC. Should any member disclose confidential information, they will be asked to leave. Secondly, members can only be assigned to groups where there will be no direct competitors. This ensures that TEC peer groups are a safe space where members can come with their issues in a non-competitive and non-judgemental environment.
