Gord Menelaws, a passionate mental health advocate, spent 40 years at Teck’s Trail Operations, including 19 years facilitating Health and Safety for the United Steelworkers. After facing his own mental health challenges, he began workplace mental health training with the Canadian Mental Health Association in 2010, developing the “Safe and Sound” program for heavy industry. Since retiring from Teck, Gord has run his own consulting company, offering wellness training to Teck sites and other companies like Great West Equipment and EV Logistics. A leader in mental health peer support, he has spoken at major conferences and earned two Teck Excellence Awards. Gord’s mission is to make mental health discussions safer and more accessible, using his personal journey to inspire others.

This presentation shares Gord’s personal journey through mental health challenges and recovery, offering inspiration and insight. It also highlights his 15 years of impactful collaboration with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), showcasing programs he developed to educate and raise awareness about mental health issues. Participants will explore their role in addressing mental health challenges at work and home, learn to identify risk factors, signs, and symptoms, and gain an understanding of the health, safety, and economic impacts. Participants will leave the session with practical resources and strategies to support mental well-being.
