Eric Coryell now dedicates his working life to helping other leaders engage their employees through strategic alignment and the creation of functional and accountable teams. Conventional wisdom suggests that teams outperform individuals, but the reality is that teams can only succeed when they are functional and accountable. Unfortunately, many teams are dysfunctional and fail to meet performance expectations, leaving leaders struggling with accountability. This session covers key topics such as the four characteristics of highly functional teams, understanding how fear of separation impacts individual behavior, and strategies to address real issues effectively. Additionally, we’ll explore how to shift teams out of “non-work” mode, build trust, and encourage team members to speak for themselves, ultimately fostering accountability and improving performance.

This three-hour session is designed to equip members with the tools to handle difficult conversations in a way that not only achieves their goals but also strengthens relationships. By the end of the session, participants will understand the five stages of developmental thinking and how they impact their approach to tough conversations. They will learn why avoiding these discussions is common and how to overcome that fear by shifting core assumptions about confrontation. Attendees will also gain skills to manage anger and stay constructive during difficult exchanges, identify what they truly want from each conversation, and master the formula for having effective discussions with anyone, anytime.
