Calgary, AB (November 23, 2018) – Congratulations to Dr. Lynn Tanner, Founder and Executive Chairman of TEC Canada, on being recognized with an honorary degree by Royal Roads University in Victoria, B.C. at the university’s 44th convocation on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
Dr. William Holmes, Dean of the Faculty of Management, presented the honorary degree to Dr. Tanner, and spoke of his dedication to supporting Canadian entrepreneurs through professional learning opportunities. “Dr. Lynn Tanner is a dynamic entrepreneur with a passion for learning and continuous personal development,” said Dr. Holmes. “For his commitment to transforming Canadian business practice and solving professional challenges through mentorship, and for his contribution to knowledge-sharing in education and in business, I am pleased to present Dr. Lynn Tanner for the degree Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.”

As a Royal Roads University Fellow, Dr. Tanner is part of a prestigious group of leaders who advise the president on current and emerging labour force and marketplace needs in BC, across Canada and internationally.

About Dr. Lynn Tanner
Dr. Lynn Tanner launched his career as an executive at Pan American World Airways in 1964. Responsible for strategic planning, Tanner led the team that recommended the first Boeing 747 to be used in the United States.
In 1972, he accepted a faculty position at the newly established Florida International University where he was responsible for graduate and undergraduate curriculum development. He opened his own management consulting firm shortly after.
He taught in the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Management for five years until 1982 when he turned his attention to a variety of local, national and international companies and eventually focused his efforts to assist business leaders in achieving success.
In 1985, Dr. Tanner founded The Executive Committee (TEC Canada), the country’s first organization to offer peer-based executive business development and support for Canada’s CEOs, senior executives and business owners. Under his leaderships, TEC Canada is now coast to coast, from Victoria to Halifax with more than 1400 active members.
In 2010, he founded the Tanner Lecture Series on Ethics, Citizenship and Public Responsibility at Syracuse University. The lecture series invites leaders in various fields to discuss provocative and challenging topics, such as what it means to be an ethical citizen and the demands of public responsibility.
Dr. Tanner holds a PhD focused on organizational change and development from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University (1975), as well as his bachelor’s degree and a Master of Business Administration (1964) from Brigham Young University.
