For decades, wherever the world’s best amateur athletes were, you’d find Ian MacDonald. From the mid-1990s to 2012, the longtime Calgarian plied his trade at no less than 13 Olympic Games, his company providing sponsor-branded merchandise for big-name clients.
These days, though, MacDonald stays mostly put in one of the world’s most beautiful places, British Columbia’s South Okanagan. Every day, he wakes to a view of vineyards in the foreground, Lake Vaseux and Skaha Lake glimmering in the distance.
“Call it a late-onset mid-life crisis,” MacDonald says with a self-deprecating chuckle. “But I’m having a lot of fun.”
No surprise that MacDonald, an indefatigable entrepreneur, has focused his talent and expertise on one of the area’s most revered industries in that beautiful corner of the country, the growing of grapes and production of wine.
