Sheila Smigarowski is a highly accomplished executive leadership coach and risk management consultant. For over three decades, she has inspired and supported leaders and businesses to reach their goals, delivering quality results in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. From hospitality to financial services, mining to retail industrial machinery, Sheila has made her mark with her tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment to excellence.
Sheila has an impressive history of leading risk and audit teams, reporting to the Board and its sub-Committees, managing risk and audit budgets of up to $2.4 million, leading complex internal audits, and optimizing a Bill 198 financial controls program. In leading Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs, she facilitates meaningful operational conversations around risks and opportunities and has enhanced the effectiveness of risk management and governance within the organizations she assists. Sheila was appointed the Chair of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Board of Directors in Canada, serving on its Board for eight years. She has facilitated IIA public seminars and as a Quality Assessor to the IIA’s Professional Standards, having been an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) for over two decades.
Her passion lies in building leader capacity and mentoring leaders both personally and professionally. Sheila holds certifications from both the International Coaching Federation and the Coaches Training Institute and offers leadership and Executive coaching within her own consultancy firm.
As the Board Chair of McDougall House, a “second stage” women’s residential addiction treatment facility, Sheila continues to make a positive impact in her community. With her track record of inspiring growth and navigating business transformations, members of Sheila’s TEC CEO group can look forward to experiencing the rewards that come with her leadership as a TEC Chair.

- Sheila has a Bachelor’s degree with distinction in Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan and the following professional designations or certifications: Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), the Certification of Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), the Audit Committee Certified (A.C.C.) designation from The Directors College (a joint venture of McMaster University and The Conference Board of Canada).
- Sheila grew up and learned the value of hard work and perseverance on a farm in northern Saskatchewan.
- Although she has lived in Denmark, Vancouver, and Saskatoon, she and her partner have lived in Edmonton for 15 years and both have a passion for golf.
